Call Summary
• The Continental Residences invite San Antonio area artists to submit their qualifications for the “Built For Good” Mural Project which will be articulated as a series of two murals located on the building’s east and southwest-facing walls.

• The goal of this open call is to commission an artist to give life to a visual narrative that celebrates the spirit of blossoming community in San Antonio’s Downtown West neighborhood and reimagines the heart of the city as a living promise to our children: a place where they can thrive, explore, and shape the future.

• This series of murals will help tell this story by showing that Downtown West isn’t just a place to live; it’s a launchpad for purpose, passion, and progress. Art will help tell this story and show how creativity and culture can transform a stale urban environment into a vibrant, magnetic place where our next generations want to live.

This is an online application process only. Applications will not be accepted by postal mail or email.

Project Description
"Built For Good" Continental Residences Mural Project Overview:
These murals will reside at the Continental Residences on historic Laredo Street, snugly situated between Commerce and Dolorosa.

The Continental Residences are key piece of a vibrant new corridor in San Antonio’s Downtown West neighborhood. Boasting a rich history, these blocks have been home to everything from a Spanish-colonial presidio, a vaudeville theatre, dance halls and a historic hotel which opened its doors in 1896.

Today the development is a critical piece of the exciting downtown revitalization anchored by UT-San Antonio’s downtown campus expansion and the newly renovated San Pedro Creek. These murals will articulate dreams for tomorrow with intention to help our community reimagine the heart of the city as a living promise to our children: a place where they can thrive, explore, and shape the future.

The new murals will help tell this story by showing that Downtown West isn’t just a place to live; it’s a local launchpad for purpose, passion, and progress. Art will help tell this story and show how creativity and culture can transform a stale urban environment into a vibrant, magnetic place where our next generations want to live.
