Budget Description Artpace annually hosts three residencies (spring, summer, and fall). Each residency includes one Texas artist, one national artist, and one international artist, all selected by a guest curator. The eight-week residency culminates in a two-month exhibition onsite. The mission of this program is to provide artists from varied disciplines with unparalleled resources and support that allows them to experiment with new ideas and take provocative risks. More than 240 artists at various stages in their careers have been selected to participate in the program. An Artpace residency includes travel expenses, a living stipend, a materials budget, an apartment, and studio/exhibition space. Resident artists have access to fully-equipped wood and metal workshops and a digital media studio, in addition to technical and administrative support. The residency is followed by a two-month exhibition of the project created, which is documented for Artpace’s archive. |

Selection Process ABOUT THE SELECTION PROCESS While guest curators select resident artists, Artpace assists by creating the Texas Open Call list of contemporary artists living and working in Texas. Each year, three guest curators review applicants and conduct studio visits with selected artists for their respective residency cycles (spring, summer, or fall). All eligible submissions will be reviewed by each guest curator. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION: - Artpace staff reviews your application for eligibility. - If your application is ineligible, you will be notified by August 31, 2019. Additionally, your application materials will be removed from the Texas Open Call List. - If your application is eligible, it will be entered into the Texas Open Call List. - Artpace selects three guest curators each year, and each curator is given access to the Texas Open Call List to select one Texas artist for each residency cycle: Spring 2021, Summer 2021, and Fall 2021. - Approximately a year out from each residency period, each guest curator will select 20-25 Texas artists for studio visits. Artpace will contact artists via email or phone to schedule studio visits. Studio visits for the spring 2021 residency will be made in spring 2020. Studio visits for the summer 2021 residency will be made in summer 2020. Studio visits for the fall 2021 residency will be made in fall 2020. - From those studio visits, each guest curator will select a Texas artist for the International Artist-in-Residence Program. Please note: An artist can be selected for multiple studio visits within one given year, but once selected for a residency, an artist is not eligible for future studio visits with guest curators for the residency program. So, if a guest curator visits an artist's studio in spring 2020 and selects them for a residency, the artist will no longer be eligible for summer or fall guest curator visits. No artist can participate in more than one residency. |
||||||
Selection Criteria ABOUT THE SELECTION CRITERIA The selection of resident artists is based entirely on the particular interests of the guest curator and how the artist fits within the curator's vision for the residency. |
