estudiosix is a peer-led artist residency and cultural workspace located in the historic center of downtown Austin, Texas.

e6 exists to support artists in developing rigorous, independent practices within an accessible environment grounded in mutual support. We are committed to:

Budget Description
e6 awards six month non-living studio residencies for 15 artist per cycle. The program offers dedicated studio space, professional support, and opportunities for public engagement within a collaborative, peer-driven setting.

Residents have 24/7 access to the facility which includes wifi & hvac, slop sinks, restrooms, internal gallery for tutorials/exhibitions. as well as a shared common area, gated outdoor area and communal kitchen.

Residents receive:
--Participation in monthly critiques
--Access to artist talks and public programming
--Inclusion in regular events
--Participation in a end-of-residency open studio presentation
--Use of shared facilities and building infrastructure

estudiosix operates on a single, standardized residency fee of $250/month to support an equitable and artist-focused environment across the program.

Studio spaces vary in size, layout, and natural light, and allocation depends on availability and the needs of each artist’s practice. Additional details regarding studio assignments, and payment schedules will be provided to selected applicants during the acceptance process.
 
Project Description
e6 seeks artists with a sustained, rigorous practice who demonstrate a strong commitment to process, curiosity, and the development of ideas over time.

The estudiosix program prioritizes long-term research, experimentation, and independent production, emphasizing process over immediate outcomes so artists can develop ambitious work without contraints.

e6 is built on a balance of independence and shared responsibility. It is an experimental, peer-led space where artists inspire, challenge, and learn from one another. Guided by openness and curiosity, we emphasize collaboration and creative risk-taking. As a community, we value generosity over hierarchy.
 
Eligibility
The program is open to professional visual artists, 21 years or older.
Applicants may not be enrolled in any degree program, participate in a separate outside studio or work full time.
Formal art education is not a prerequisite; instead, we are looking for commitment to time spent in the studio.
Residents are responsible for their own housing. Studios have a no-accommodation policy.
Work that involves high levels of noise, overt toxic fumes, or fire risk are not permitted in the studios.

Please provide a clear and purposeful proposal for how the residency will be used.
 
Artists are NOT allowed to apply in teams.
 
Selection Information
Selection Process
Applications are reviewed by a rotating committee of artists, curators, and cultural practitioners with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Selection is made to form a balanced group of artists working across different approaches and disciplines -- evaluating artistic practice, commitment to studio work, and fit within the cohort.
 
Selection Criteria
Selections are based on:
--a strong and reflective artistic practice
--a clear proposal or focus for your time in e6
--engagement with current discourses in contemporary art
--a willingness to participate in the e6 community. An openness to dialogue and collaboration is imperative to the success of the program.
--Commitment to minimum contact hours and sustained practice

e6 is committed to transparency, fairness, and accessibility in its selection process.
